An Islamic religious leader in Michigan has endorsed Donald Trump for president, a significant development ahead of Election Day in the battleground state.
Imam Husham Al-Husainy of the Karbalaa Islamic Center in Dearborn made the endorsement during a Michigan GOP press call. The call also had other Muslim government officials in the Great Lakes State in attendance, including Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi and Hamtramck Mayor Ameer Ghalib, a Democrat.
According to Al-Husainy, he supports Trump due to the real estate mogul’s anti-war stance – something the imam described as “closer to the Bible, Torah and the Quran.” He continued: “We should stop the war, whether in Europe or in [the] Middle East. And I believe in justice evenly between all the children of Ibrahim [the Muslim name of Abraham the Patriarch].”
“And I thirdly believe in the morality, which is the holy logic in the [three holy texts] where God supports normality and respect, [and] appreciates the marriage between male and female. So this is why I believe that we need a special president, [a] special leader.”
The cleric, who hails from Iraq and has lived in America for the last 50 years, stressed that he is neither a Democrat nor a GOP. Rather, he is merely a clergyman advocating for religious morality.
“I’ve been here [for] 50 years, and I believe I owe this society a lot. I support morality, I support peace and I know that I owe this society. I have five children, American-born. I have 10 grandchildren, and I feel I owe this society a lot. That’s why I jumped in and got involved in this campaign,” Al-Husainy continued. “I support, like I said, ease and stop the war. I think we need a clear, strong leader. This is the strongest country in the world, and it deserves to have a strong leader where he can bring peace to this world.”
Breitbart News asked the panel during a question-and-answer portion of the press call if Muslim and Arab-American voters in Wayne County could be the most influential voting bloc for this election, given their power to turn the Great Lakes State red. Ghalib, who endorsed Trump last month, responded in the affirmative. (Related: Mayor of Muslim-majority city in Michigan endorses DONALD TRUMP for president.)
“Yes, there would be a significant impact on the outcomes of the [upcoming] election and the future as well,” said Ghalib, who was elected as Hamtramck mayor in 2021. “The community realized that we align more on social issues, morals, family structure [and] faith with the Republicans.”
He also spoke about the major cultural shift around Trump and the GOP that has taken place since even four years ago. The mayor recounted: “It was 2020 when someone left the polling location and was talking that he voted for Trump, and everybody was looking at him like they wanted to beat him up.
“Nobody here used to vote for a Republican, and if there [were] some [who did] … it would be secret. And no, they would not announce it. I’m talking about the Arab-American and Muslim communities and even other communities as well,” he said. “This time it’s different. I said it: We broke that wall of fear. And now, yes, I’m under fire from … radical Democrats, but the community now is very supportive of me.”
Ghalib emphasized that this pro-Trump trend is not confined to his city. Rather, it is spreading in other key Muslim-dense communities in Wayne County such as Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Detroit and others.
“I was surprised to see tremendous support … from the communities in these cities,” he commented. “If there was a rally here in Hamtramck and not just a small event for [former] President Trump, there would be thousands and thousands of people here – which is unusual.”
